FAQ – Baggage

You are entitled to a limited amount of free baggage on board our flights.
On all Surinam Airways flights the baggage allowance is based on the pieces system.

For travel on the Mid-Atlantic flights (between Paramaribo and Amsterdam) the following is applicable.

  • For Economy Class   1 piece with a maximum weight of  25 kg
  • For Business Class     2 pieces with each a maximum weight of 30 kg.

Please note that the measurement (length+width+depth) of your luggage may not exceed the total amount of 158 cm (62 inch)

For travel on the Regional flights to Aruba, Belem, Cayenne, Curacao, Georgetown, Port of Spain and the United States of America, the following is applicable.

  • For Economy Class   1 piece with a maximum weight of  23 kg
  • For Business Class     2 pieces with each a maximum weight of 23 kg.

Please note that the measurement (length+width+depth) of your luggage may not exceed the total amount of 158 cm (62 inch)

For travel on the flights between Paramaribo and Belem, the following is applicable.

  • For Economy Class   1 piece with a maximum weight of  30 kg
  • For Business Class     2 pieces with each a maximum weight of 23 kg.

If you take more baggage than you are allowed you pay an extra baggage charge. Charges vary depending on the route. You can get more information on our website section Travelinformation, Baggage or you can contact one of our sales offices for more information.

Next to your free baggage allowance, cabin baggage is allowed.
However the quantity and the size are severely limited.

For our  flights between Paramaribo (Suriname) and Amsterdam (The Netherlands) the cabin luggage for Economy class and Business clas  cannot exceed 10 kg. The size (length + width + depth) may not exceed de 110 cm.

A handbag measuring for instance 25 + 35 + 55 centimeter is NOT allowed, since 25+35+55 = 115.

Yes, you are allowed to take a bicycle on board our flight.

Notwithstanding the fact that we will do our utmost to get your baggage to your destination it happens that suitcases or bags remain definitely lost by the absence of an address- or baggage label.

First of all the airline company will give you an allowance for the first days at your destination so you have the possibility to acquire the necessary things. Additionally you are entitled to a partial compensation of the lost effects, but it will never replace the replacement value. You will have to demonstrate the contents of the baggage and what the replacement value was by submitting receipts for instance. Ultimately you will only receive a percentage of the replacement value as compensation. These rules have been formulated by the IATA.

Speciale rules apply for carrying liquids in your hand luggage. Only small amounts of 100 ml. (3.4 oz.) per article in your hand luggage is allowed and must be placed in a transparent and sealable plastic bag with a maximum volume of no more than 1 liter. The bag must easily closed and the articles must fit easily and freely.
Each passenger may carry only one transparent plastic bag. At checkpoints you can be requested to show the transparent plastic bag with liquids.

Liquids to which the rules do not apply:

  • infant food for use during the flight
  • medicines for use during the flight, if according to prescription or medical certificate
  • special diet food for use during the flight
