One of Colakreek’s biggest assets is its size. Although it can be very crowded with visitors, there is still enough space for everyone. The resort has a capacity – so I’ve been told – of ten thousand people. While not permitted at other locations, at the oldest recreation park you are allowed to bring your own food and drink. Turning on your music system has also been permitted since the opening of the resort. Music may put you in the right mood, but it can also be a nuisance to others. In order to minimize the inconvenience, a so-called ‘quiet zone’ has been established.
Everyone will agree that water is the most important part of a bathing resort; at Colakreek there is always plenty of water. And fresh water indeed. The river vegetation contributes to the balance of oxygen in the water. Because it is widely known, Colakreek is also a meeting place for family and friends.
Theme days have been planned for the summer vacation. Be surprised! For instance, there is a special ‘Kriki’ special on the menu. Let’s be honest: not everyone likes to bother with cooking.
Don’t forget, Colakreek also offers lodging facilities. There are holiday cabanas at the edge of the woods – with airconditioning, a kitchen and a bathroom with a bath and toilet. Unfortunately, the weekends are already fully booked. A good reason for visiting the resort during the week. On weekdays Colakreek has an atmosphere of almost meditative silence.
For the real nature lovers there’s the possibility of a guided walk in the woods; free of charge, as are the sports grounds. Besides sporting activities, djoel, an old Surinamese game played on sand, is a favourite passtime on the clean sand here. Forgot your hammock or a ball? Colakreek rents out things like these. Also, toys are for sale at the resort reception.
Security is taken seriously at Colakreek; the resort’s own security and lifeguards ensure the safety of the guests. Fortunately, assistance from the first aid unit is seldom required. If you have any particular wishes, the management will fulfill them and don’t forget: showing your SLM-ticket will get you access free of charge!
