The names keep flooding in – and indeed very popular ones. None other than Mariah Carey has confirmed her presence at Curacao North Sea Jazz Festival 2019. The multi-Grammy Award winner will be demonstrating her talents on the Sam Cooke stage on the last day of CNSJ, Saturday 31 August. The day before, Pitbull will deliver a rock-solid performance. Like Mariah Carey, this world famous artist needs no further introduction. On the opening night of the Festival Juan Luis Guerra will take the stage. Other stars that will shine at the biggest music festival of the Caribbean are Earth, Wind & Fire, Black Eyed Peas, Maxwell, Michael McDonald, Kenny G, Aloe Blacc and David Sanborn.
Three-time Grammy Award winner Maxwell revitalized the soul scene at the end of the nineties. ”The new Prince” – or “Marvin Gaye” fits well in a description of his talents. Recognizable by his full singing voice, Michael McDonald not only earned a reputation as a singer and composer, but also as a much sought after session musician. The result: five Grammy’s. And who doesn’t know this one: Kenny G! Lonely at the top of the list of best-selling instrumentalists ever. Nevertheless, this saxophonist is still touring worldwide. He released his latest album, Brazilian Nights, in 2015. Singer-songwriter Aloe Blacc, who has three albums to his name, reached the number one position on the charts with the track ‘Wake Me Up’ in many countries. As to jazz/funk and other genres, David Sanborn is your man. Eight gold records, one platinum and six Grammy’s tell you all you need to know about this influential saxophone player.
Maroon 5, Ozuna, Gladys Knight and Third World are among the artists in the previously announced line-up. ‘The Empress of Soul’ Gladys Knight already performed in 2013, while Third World, as one of the longest running reggae bands in the world, will be making its debut. Curacao North Sea Jazz Festival always presents a first day festival day free of charge, which will be on Thursday 29 August this year. On this day Juan Luis Guerra, Havana D’Primera and Aymee Nuviola will warm up the audience with lively Latin music. The Festival’s location, the World Trade Centre at Piscadera Bay, is no surprise. What will be surprising for those who will go, are the names of the other artists who will also take the stage.
